Miami Hurricanes News: FB top 5 for 4-star S, Bats split with GaTech
The Miami football program is one of five finalists for four-star safety Zaquan Patterson. The Miami baseball team won its weekend series with Georgia Tech but split a doubleheader on Sunday. Duke guard Shayeann Day-Wilson is transferring to the Miami Hurricanes and the basketball coaches will be getting contract extensions.
Patterson tweeted his five finalists on Sunday. Miami has continually trended in the recruitment of Patterson. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projects the Miami Hurricanes football program with a 90.8 percent chance for a commitment from Patterson. Auburn, Florida State, Michigan and Ohio State, are the other finalists.
The Miami baseball team won the first game on Sunday 9-7 to earn the series win and lost the second game of the double-header 9-5 in six innings. The second game ended after six innings due to a 5:15 PM curfew. Miami improves to 25-15 overall and 12-9 in the ACC tied for second with Virginia.
Michelle Kaufman of the Miami Herald reported that the contract extensions for Miami basketball coaches Jim Larranaga and Katie Meier are expected to be announced later this week. Larranaga led Miami to its first Elite Eight in 2022 and Final Four in 2023. Meier led the women to their first Elite Eight in 2023.
Day-Wilson who was the ACC Freshman of the Year at Duke in 2021-22 tweeted on Sunday that she is transferring to the Miami basketball program. Day-Wilson averaged 8.1 points per game, 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 33.7 percent from the field for Duke in 2022-23.
Isaac Trotter of 247 Sports examined the “College basketball transfer exit: First impression of each ACC team’s offseason.” Miami lost four players to the 2023 transfer portal plus ACC Player of the Year Isaiah Wong who declared for the NBA Draft. The only addition this spring was signing Swiss guard Kyshawn George.
Miami has a good corps returning for 2023-24. Trotter provided a concise analysis of Miami. But Miami has been very quiet in the portal so far. Jim Larrañaga will have no issues if Pack, Omier and Poplar are the best three players on the team next year. But upgrading the depth will be a big thing to watch in the next month.”
