The Miami Hurricanes basketball program received difficult news on Monday when star forward Norchad Omier declared for the NBA Draft with the possibility of returning next season. Good news came for the Miami football program finishing in the top five for four-star running back Jordan Lyle.

St. Thomas Aquinas star Lyle named the Miami football program with Alabama, Florida State, Georgia and Ohio State in his top five. Miami leads with a 27.1 percent chance for a commitment from Lyle per On3. Penn State is the other program that is listed by one with a 23.7 percent chance followed by Florida at 10.6 percent.

Florida State and Ohio State are tied as the second highest-ranked teams of the other four finalists at 8.9 percent. Lyle told On3 “Miami is a great school surrounded by great individuals. It would be a blessing to put on for the crib!” Lyle is teammates with four-star 2024 Miami wide receiver commit Chance Robinson.

The declaration for the NBA Draft by Omier on Monday was surprising. The deadline for the NBA Draft was 11:59 PM on Sunday night. Omier leaving the possiblity of a return open is a good sign. The Nicaraguan could attend the NBA Combine next month if he gets an invite to learn what he needs to work on.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald provided transfer portal updates for the Miami Hurricanes basketball and football programs. The Men’s basketball and football programs have been quiet this spring. Katie Meier and the Women’s basketball program officially announced four transfers joining the team for next season.

Isaac Trotter of 247 Sports examined the “College basketball transfer portal: First impression of each ACC team’s offseason” posted on Monday morning before Omier declared for the NBA Draft. Miami will almost have to add a post player in Omier stays in the draft and needs to add depth at guard and in the frontcourt.

Trotter stated “Omier and Poplar are the best three players on the team next year. But upgrading the depth will be a big thing to watch in the next month. It’s almost too quiet in Miami right now. Don’t be surprised if Larrañaga has something significant cooking.” Larranaga wanted to add two transfers before Omier’s news.
