Will Mallory enters the 2023 NFL Draft after two years as a starter with the Miami football program. Mallory had his best season in 2022 leading Miami with 42 receptions and 538 yards while finishing second with three TD receptions. The NFL Mock Draft Database ranks Mallory as the 179th overall prospect in 2023.

The 179th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft is held by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from the Houston Texans. Cade Otton was the top TE for Tampa Bay last season with 42 receptions for 391 yards and two TDs last season. The Tampa Bay offense faces a huge transition after the retirement of Tom Brady in February.

Otton was a fourth-round pick by Tampa Bay in the 2022 NFL Draft and the Buccaneers selected Ko Kieft from Minnesota in the sixth round. It seems unlikely that Tampa would select a late-round TE for the second year in a row. Mallory is not a great blocker and could emerge as a third-down TE in passing situations.

At 6’4 and 239 pounds with a 4.54 time in the 40 and a 36.5-inch vertical Mallory would be an ideal player for contested catches. The Kansas City Chiefs pick one spot ahead of Tampa in the sixth round with the 178th pick and the Arizona Cardinals follow Tampa Bay with the 180th pick and could be teams to watch for Mallory.
