Kellen Winslow II became infamous for the speech in the above video stating that football is war. Winslow did not lament a Tennessee player getting injured following one of his blocks. The comments from Winslow perfectly fit the swag and toughness Miami portrayed since the 1980s.

Winslow was one of four true freshmen who played for Miami on the 2001 national champions. Winslow backed up Shockey in 2001. After Shockey left for the NFL following the 2001 season Winslow led Miami with 57 receptions for 726 yards and eight TDs. Winslow is second among Miami TEs with 119 career receptions.

With 1,365 receiving yards Winslow is fourth in Miami history and he added nine career TDs. In the 2003 Fiesta Bowl versus Ohio State, Winslow set a Miami record with 11 receptions for 122 yards and a TD. Winslow won the Mackey Award as the best TE in college football with 60 receptions for 605 yards and one TD.

In his last season with Miami in 2003 Winslow helped lead the Hurricanes to a 22-14 win at Florida State. That was the Sean Taylor game. Winslow had 11 receptions for 106 yards versus the Seminoles. Miami won its fourth in a row over Florida State in 2004. The streak would stretch to six games.
