Miami Hurricanes News: NFL Draft, Bats beat Louisville, transfer portal news
Miami Hurricanes cornerback Tyrique Stevenson is projected to be selected in the third round of the NFL Draft which will take place on Friday night. The Miami baseball team earned a key 6-5 win at Louisville on Thursday. Miami redshirt freshman edge rusher Thomas Davis entered the transfer portal on Thursday.
Stevenson is projected to be the 70th pick by the NFL Mock Draft Database. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the 70th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Las Vegas had one of the poorest pass defenses last season. The Raiders could select a defensive back in the 2023 NFL Draft. Stevenson will be a player to watch on Friday.
Miami won for the fourth time in five games with the win over Louisville on Thursday. The Miami baseball team lost a 5-2 entering the bottom of the sixth before regaining the lead in the top of the eighth inning. After loading the bases in the ninth, Miami closer Andrew Walter shut down Louisville to earn the save.
Davis who was a three-star signee in the 2021 Miami class was deep on the Hurricanes’ depth chart at edge rusher. In two seasons with Miami Davis received his only playing time last year versus Bethune-Cookman with one tackle, one tackle for loss and a 0.5 sacks. Davis was a converted linebacker to edge rusher.
The Miami Hurricanes have passed Notre Dame as the favorite for five-star defensive tackle Justin Scott per On3. Steve Wiltfong, the Director of Football Recruiting for 247 Sports logged a crystal ball in favor of Miami for Scott on Thursday. Scott would be a foundational player for Miami in the 2023 class.
Scott is the 13th overall prospect, third defensive lineman and top player in Illinois in the class of 2024. Miami Hurricanes DT Leonard Taylor is eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft. Scott could be the eventual replacement for Taylor. Miami is making the defensive line a priority in the 2024 recruiting class.
