Miami Hurricanes News: Bears draft Tyrique Stevenson, UL beats bats
Miami Hurricanes cornerback Tyrique Stevenson was the 56th pick overall in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears on Friday night. The Miami baseball team was blown out of Louisville Slugger Park 11-0 by the Cardinals on Friday night. Miami has been included as a finalist for several recruits.
Stevenson was selected by a Bears team in need of depth at CB. Kyler Gordon who was the 39th overall pick in the second round in 2022 played 79.41 percent of the defensive snaps in 2022. Jaylon Johnson played 60.48 percent of the defensive snaps last season as the only other Bears’ CB over 50 percent.
Stevenson should have a chance to compete to be the Bears’ third CB in 2023. After originally primarily playing the slot at Georgia, Stevenson transferred to Miami to play outside. Stevenson will provide the Bears with aggressiveness, physicality and versatility at CB. Devin Hester announced Stevenson’s pick.
Louisville scored four runs in the second inning to get in front early. The Cardinals finished the game with runs in every inning between the fourth and eighth except for the fifth. The Miami Hurricanes baseball team finished the game with 11 hits and 15 runners left on base in the decisive loss to Louisville.
The Miami Hurricanes football program was named in the top six for 2024 three-star safety Kennedy Urlacher who is the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Brian. Urlacher will announce his college destination on May 1 at 6 PM. Davon Mitchell the top tight end in the 2025 class named Miami in his top five.
Miami tight end Will Mallory is projected to be taken in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft on Sunday. The NFL Mock Draft database has Mallory as the 179th consensus pick. No one else from Miami is expected to be taken in the 2023 NFL Draft. Green Bay owns the 179th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft via Tampa Bay.
