North Texas LB Larry Nixon good fit after Miami football offer
The Miami football program would be a good fit for North Texas linebacker Larry Nixon who tweeted on Sunday he that has received an offer from the Hurricanes. Nixon entered the transfer portal on Saturday. Nixon was second on North Texas in 2022 with 105 tackles and added 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
Chris Hummer of 247 Sports stated that Nixon is a grad transfer. Nixon also tweeted that he received an offer from Auburn. Nixon was not a highly sought-after prospect out of North Richland Hills, Texas, Richland in the class of 2018. Nixon was the 2338th prospect, 160th outside LB and 358th recruit in Texas per 247 Sports.
Nixon would provide Miami with depth and experience at OLB. Sophomore Wesley Bissainthe projects to be the Miami starting OLB in 2023. Miami added Washington State transfer Francisco Mauigoa who is projected to be the starting middle LB in 2023. At 6’2, 236 pounds, Nixon would provide Miami with good size at LB.
Nixon redshirted as a true freshman in 2018 and is eligible for a sixth season of college football because of the covid year in 2020. Nixon has progressed each season with North Texas. After one start as a redshirt freshman in 2019, Nixon started 15 of the Mean Green’s 20 games in 2020 and 2021.
Nixon had his breakout season in 2022, setting a career-high in tackles. Fourth-Year Junior Corey Flagg and fifth-year senior Keontra Smith are the most experienced LBs on the Miami football roster who are likely to be in the rotation in 2023. Miami signed four LBs in the class of 2023 who all have bright futures.
Raul Aguirre, Malik Bryant and Bobby Washington were four-star signees for Miami in the 2023 class. Marcellius Pulliam was a three-star signee for Miami in 2023. Adding Nixon to the 2023 roster would also help with the young LBs Miami is bringing in. Nixon did not receive any Power Five offers out of high school per 247 Sports.
