“Miami leads OSU for DT (Tywone Malone)…(and) would probably have the inside position.” in the article College football transfer portal: Auburn at ‘forefront’ for QB, Miami leads OSU for DT, Colorado in trouble?” according to Grant Hughes of 247 Sports. The Miami football program would like to add another run-stuffing DT.

At 6’4 and 300 pounds, Malone would have the Miami football program replace Darrell Jackson at DT. In two seasons at Mississippi, Malone had 13 tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks and two pass breakups. Malone posted most of his numbers in 2022 with 10 tackles, one TFL, one sack and both pass breakups.

Malone was a four-star signee in the Class of 2021 who was the 63rd prospect, 11th DT and first in New Jersey. Gabe Brooks of 247 Sports wrote in his scouting report that Malone has the ability to play in multiple fronts. Malone is an exceptional athlete that also plays on the Mississippi baseball team.

Hughes quoted 247 National college football writer and transfer portal analyst Chris Hummer regarding where Miami is in the recruitment of Malone. Ohio State is the main competition for Miami signing Malone. Other media outlets project Ohio State as the favorite for a commitment from Malone.

"ON OHIO STATE’S AND MIAMI’S PURSUIT OF OLE MISS DT TYWONE MALONE“Unlike Josh Simmons, he left campus without committing. A team to watch here is Miami. Miami has been a team I’ve circled with Tywone Malone this entire time. He is a person who wants to continue playing baseball. The Miami baseball program is pretty good.Miami has a really big need inside at defensive tackle in a way Ohio State probably doesn’t, at least for an immediate starter. So, the path to the field is a little easier at Miami. I would not be shocked to see Malone on campus at Miami at some point, and of those two teams, Miami would probably have the inside position.”"

Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U reported on Wednesday afternoon that Malone will officially visit Miami later this week. Malone would be the third DT the Miami football program would add to the 2023 roster. Miami previously added Purdue transfer Branson Deen and Thomas Gore from Georgia State at DT.
