Miami Hurricanes News: Pitelli’s historic night, transfers near decisions

The Miami Hurricanes baseball team erupted late with four runs in each of their final three at-bats in a 13-4 win over Presbyterian on Friday night in Coral Gables. Florida State transfer forward Matthew Cleveland will announce between Auburn, Miami and Missouri on Sunday. The Miami football team had a bit hosting weekend.

The Presbyterian baseball team was competitive with the Miami Hurricanes trailing only 1-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. Miami blew the game open with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, four more in the seventh and another quartet in the bottom of the eighth inning to stretch the lead to 13-0.

Miami shortstop Dominic Pitelli had five hits in five at-bats with three runs scored and nine RBIs. Starter Gage Ziehl pitched eight innings for Miami allowing four hits and no runs with one strikeout and 12 walks. Lorenzo Carrier finished a double shy of the cycle with three hits, three runs and three RBIs in three at-bats.

The Miami football program is hosting multiple potential transfers this weekend. Miami is primarily searching for more depth at defensive tackle and a playmaking outside wide receiver. The Hurricanes are hosting one defensive back, two DTs, an offensive lineman, a linebacker, running back and WR this weekend.

Cleveland tweeted on Friday that he will announce which program he will transfer on Sunday. Auburn and Missouri are the other two finalists with the Miami Hurricanes basketball program. Auburn is the favorite to receive a commitment from

David Lake of Inside the U wrote on Friday that “Miami’s 2023 transfer class is one of the few with a four-star average.” Miami has the fourth highest average among its transfers for the 2023 season behind Georgia, Florida State and Michigan. The Hurriccanes have added nine tranfers for next season.
