Miami football 2023 transfer class third best national average

The Miami football program has the third-best average per transfer in its 2023 class per 247 Sports. Florida State with an average of 91.56 is first and Michigan at 90.71 per transfer is second. Miami has a 90.56 average per transfer. The Hurricanes have 11 transfers committed for 2023, FSU has six and Michigan has nine.

Miami is 15th in the 2023 transfer team rankings. Florida State is sixth in the 2023 transfer team rankings and Michigan is 24th. Miami has the third highest-rated transfer class in the ACC behind Florida State and Louisville. The Cardinals added 20 transfers in 2023 and their average player grades at 87.85 per 247 Sports.

Running back Ajay Allen and cornerback Jaidus Richard who committed on Monday are the most recent Miami transfers. Guard Javion Cohen and linebacker Francisco Mauigoa are the highest-rated transfers in the 2023 Miami transfer class. Several including Cohen, Mauigoa and center Matthew Lee are expected to start.

Allen is the only transfer Miami has added at RB to its 2023 roster. Richard joins Davonte Brown from Central Florida, Jaden Davis from Oklahoma and Terry Roberts from Iowa as transfers to Miami at CB. Miami has nearly remade its entire CB unit for 2023. Te’Cory Couch is the only returning starting CB for Miami in 2023.

The other 2023 Miami football transfers are defensive tackles Branson Deen from Purdue and Thomas Gore from Georgia State and tight end Cameron McCormick from Oregon. Deen and Gore add depth. McCormick was first-team TE frequently this spring and played for Mario Cristobal at Oregon.

Miami is still in contact with several other transfers. Louisiana Tech DT Keivie Rose is a player to monitor for Miami in the transfer portal. Miami is still searching for a run-stuffing defensive tackle to add to its 2023 roster. Jared Harrison-Hunte and Leonard Taylor are the projected Miami starting DTs.

During Early National Signing Day in December Cristobal stated that DT and an outside wide receiver were priorities for Miami in the transfer portal. Miami has not signed a transfer WR in the 2023 portal cycle. The Hurricanes are deep at slot receiver with Xavier Restrepo, Brashard Smith and freshman Nathaniel Joseph.
