Miami football renewing Louisiana pipeline
The Miami football program has recruited well in Louisiana dating back to the 1990s with wide receiver Reggie Wayne and safety Ed Reed. More recently, running back Tre’Vonte Citizen was the first signee in the Class of 2022 from Louisiana during the Mario Cristobal era. Expect Louisiana to become a more fertile recruiting ground.
Cristobal hired Lance Guidry as defensive coordinator and Shannon Dawson as offensive coordinator ahead of the 2023 season. Dawson and Guidry are both Louisiana natives. None of the 2023 Miami signees are from Louisiana. Transfers Ajay Allen and Jadais Richard who committed to Miami on Monday are from Louisiana.
Three-star 2024 Miami safety commit Dylan Day attends Southern Lab in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Citizen is coming off of a knee injury that caused him to miss his entire true freshman season. Allen joins the Miami RB unit to compose one-third of the group originally from Louisiana. Richard will compete for significant snaps at CB.
Richard played 203 snaps last season per Pro Football Focus via Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U. The Miami football program has added Davonte Brown from Central Florida, Jaden Davis from Oklahoma, Richard and Terry Roberts as transfer CBs during the 2023 offseason. Richard has three years of eligibility remaining.
Allen transfers to Miami from Nebraska after starring at Neville High School in Monroe, Louisiana. Allen ran 33 times for 190 yards and two touchdowns as a true freshman for Nebraska in 2022 before suffering a broken collarbone against Oklahoma in the fourth game of the 2022 season.
Since Allen played in only four games in 2022 he was able to take a medical redshirt and will have four seasons of eligibility remaining. Allen joins a Miami backfield with veterans Don Chaney Jr. and Henry Parrish and freshmen Citizen, Mark Fletcher and Chris Johnson. Miami should have a competitive training camp at RB.
In addition to Allen, Citizen, Day and Richard Miami has a commitment for 2024 from kicker Abram Murray who is from Shreveport, Louisiana. Former Miami quarterback Brock Berlin was also from Shreveport. Miami has an offer out to Louisiana Tech transfer defensive tackle Keivie Rose to add depth.
