No. 3 Miami football NFL career in league history: Ed Reed

2002 NFL Draft: Round 1, Pick 24

Baltimore Ravens, 2002–2012
Houston Texans, 2013
New York Jets, 2013

Ed Reed was, like Sapp, a national champion at Miami and a Super Bowl champion in the NFL, though the former was, unlike the latter, from Louisiana. Reed is a household name because of what he did to build an aura for the Baltimore Ravens that rivaled the Steel Curtain from the 1970s from AFC North rival Pittsburgh’s lore, though, more than anything.

While his coaching career hasn’t always seen much success — with his recent dustup with the Bethune-Cookman administration for dismissing him before he can even start as head coach — Reed is arguably the greatest safety in the history of pro football.

In a 12-year career, Reed was an All-Pro eight times. He led the league in interceptions three different seasons and owns the record for most career interception return yards (1,590), longest interception return (108 yards), and most career postseason interceptions (nine).
