No. 7 Miami football NFL career in league history: Cortez Kennedy

1990 NFL Draft: Round 1, Pick 3

Seattle Seahawks, 1990–2000

Cortez Kennedy was part of the Legion of Boom’s 1990s prologue, establishing the 12th Man in Seattle by being one of the greatest defenders in not just the history of the Seahawks franchise but of the entirety of NFL history. Kennedy’s career spanned the entire 1990s and the 2000 season before he retired in 2002 following an inactive 2001 season.

Kennedy was a Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalist in 2008, a finalist in 2009 and 2011, and was finally elected to the Hall in 2012. Tragically, he died in 2017, but his life was marked by elite play along the defensive line, a stint as an advisor for the New Orleans Saints, and dedication to his family.

The 5x All-Pro was named the greatest player in the history of professional sports to ever wear the No. 96. While his Seahawks were never potent enough offensively to contend for a Super Bowl, his contributions will never be forgotten.
