Miami football adds transfer DL Anthony Campbell after weekend visit
The Miami football program received a commitment from Louisiana-Monroe transfer defensive lineman Anthony Campbell following his weekend visit. Campbell is the 411th-ranked transfer and 41st DL transfer in the 247 Sports rankings. Campbell thanked multiple Miami coaches and staffers when he tweeted his decision.
The Miami football program will play the 6’7 and 277-pound Campbell at defensive tackle after he was an edge rusher for Louisiana Monroe. In two seasons after transfering from Independence Kansas Community College Campbell had 13 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack at Louisiana-Monroe.
Campbell is the third DT Miami has added to its 2023 roster. Miami previously added Branson Deen from Purdue and Thomas Gore from Georgia State. Deen and Gore are known more as interior pass rushers. Deen is 6’2 and 280 pounds. Gore is 6’0 and 270 pounds. Campbell seems likely to be the primary backup DT.
Miami returns starting DTs Jared Harrison-Hunte and Leonard Taylor in 2023. Taylor is poised for a breakout season. Mario Cristobal said in December that adding a transfer DT and outside wide receiver were the priorities in the portal. Miami should be finished adding DT depth and received a commitment from WR Tyler Harrell on Friday.

Campbell will provide the Miami DL versatility with returning starter Akheem Mesidor with the ability to play end or tackle. Freshman Rueben Bain also has the ability play inside and outside on the DL as he proved in high school and this spring. Miami beat out Purdue, Colorado and Mississippi State for Campbell.
Pro Football Focus graded Campbell 72.9 overall, 74.4 against the run, 61.3 tackle grade and and a 69.4 pass rush grade. with14 QB hurries. Campbell did not start plaing football until he was 14 when he and his family moved from Jamaica. Miami has significantly improved the depth on the DL for the 2023 season.
The addition of Harrell on Friday and Campbell on Saturday push the 2023 Miami transfer class to ninth nationally in the 247 Sports rankings. Miami has 11 transfers committed to its 2023 roster. Florida State who is sixth in the portal rankings and has nine players committed is the only program higher ranked with less transfers.
