Miami Hurricanes News: Baseball survives and big football news
The Miami Hurricanes baseball team survived a late comeback attempt at Pittsburgh defeating the Panthers 9-8. The Miami football program received good news on multiple accounts on Friday. Miami received a transfer commitment from WR Tyler Harrell, a crystal ball for safety Andre Sam and will get a visit from DE Jaylen Jackson.
The Miami Hurricanes baseball team had a 7-1 lead over Pittsburgh after five innings and 9-4 entering the bottom of the seventh before holding on for the win. Pittsburgh scored two runs each in the seventh and eighth innings to cut the deficit to 9-8. Andrew Walters earned a five-out save to preserve the Miami win.
Harrell committing to the Miami Hurricanes football program is huge for a position that is in need of a productive WR. Harrell has exceptional speed. Harrell has 22 receptions for 577 yards and a dazzling 26.2 yards per reception in four seasons split between Alabama and Louisville. Harrell returns home to Miami.
Sam has played for new Miami Hurricanes defensive coordinator Lance Guidry at FCS McNeese State and Marshall and transferred to Tulane following the 2022 season. When Guidry left Tulane after three weeks Sam re-entered the transfer portal. Miami needs to add depth at safety with only three scholarship safeties for 2032.
Jackson is a three-star prospect in the 2024 Class out of IMG Academy that is the 659th-ranked recruit, 62nd defensive lineman and 97th player according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings. There are no 247 Sports crystal balls for Jackson. On3 projects Ohio State with a 90.7 percent chance for a commitment from Jackson.
The Miami Hurricanes football team was also named in the top 10 for five-star 2024 defensive lineman Aydin Breeland. On3 lists USC as the leader with a 21.4 percent chance for a commitment from Breeland, followed by Georgia at 18.7 percent, Oregon at 10.9 percent and Miami at 9.0 percent.
The next month plus should be important for the 2024 Miami recruiting class. Miami had a flurry of commits to the 2023 class in June and July. The Hurricanes currently have seven commits to the 2024 Class. The 2024 Miami recruiting class currently ranks 28th. Expect that to rise in the next six weeks.
