The Miami football program is a long shot in the top five for five-star running back Jerrick Gibson. Florida, Georgia, Miami, Tennessee and Texas were named as the top five teams by Gibson in a Twitter post on Tuesday. Gibson is the 26th-ranked prospect, top RB and sixth in Florida out of IMG Academy in the 2024 class.

Steve Wiltfong the 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting and Hudson Standish the Horns 247 Texas Recruiting Editor both logged crystal balls for Gibson in favor of Texas. On3 projects Texas with a 94.3 percent chance for a commitment from Gibson. Florida is listed second for Gibson at 2.0 percent.

Gibson told On3 that Miami is on the rise and his former IMG Academy teammates (Miami 2023 signees Francis Mauigoa, Antonio Tripp, Jayden Wayne and Riley Williams) playing at a high level as true freshmen are proof of that. Miami is in the top five for Gibson primarily because of the opportunity to play as a freshman.

Gibson had 608 yards rushing in 2022 on 7.3 yards per carry with eight touchdowns. Those numbers are impressive on a star-laden IMG Academy team. Gibson was not productive as a receiver at IMG last season, but the consensus among scouts is that he has the ability to produce as a pass catcher.

The On3 scouting reports credits Gibson as being highly explosive and physically developed at 5’10 and 200 pounds. Gibson was timed running a 4.57 40-yard dash. The combination of size and speed makes Gibson elite. Miami signed power back Mark Fletcher and speedy Chris Johnson in the 2023 class.

Speedy three-star RB Chris Wheatley-Humphrey is committed to the 2024 Miami football class. Miami should have a deep RB corps for the next few years. All of the RBs on the Miami roster have eligibility remaining beyond 2023. Four of the six 2023 Miami RBs have four years of eligibility remaining.
