Miami baseball NC State game will determine ACC Tournament Pool D

The game between the Miami baseball team and North Carolina State on Thursday night in the ACC Tournament will determine the winner of Pool D. If Miami beats North Carolina State and loses to Duke in their other Pool D game on Friday afternoon, the Hurricanes would still own the tiebreaker.

North Carolina State defeated Duke 8-7 in 11 innings in the Pool D opener at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday night. The first four days of the ACC Baseball Tournament are a round-robin made up of four pools of three teams each. The winners of each pool advance to the semifinals on Saturday.

The winner of Pool A plays the winner of Pool D on Saturday at 1 PM. The B and C Pool winners will play on Saturday at 5 PM. Miami is the fourth overall seed in the ACC Tournament. That is why the Hurricanes would own the tiebreaker and clinch a spot in the semifinals on Saturday with a win over the Wolfpack.

The win by North Carolina State over Duke was a slight upset. Duke is 35-20 and finished 16-13 in the ACC during the regular season to earn the fifth seed. North Carolina State is 35-18 but finished 13-16 during the regular season and is the ninth seed in the 2023 ACC Tournament. Miami and NC State play at 7 PM on Thursday.

The Miami baseball team enters the ACC Tournament competing for a chance to host a regional in the NCAA Tournament. Miami has a 37-18 record and was 18-12 in the ACC during the regular season. Miami won two out of three versus NC State in Coral Gables in March. NC State outscored Miami 23-21 in the three games.
