Miami Hurricanes News: ACC Baseball Tourney, recruiting updates
The Miami Hurricanes baseball team will make its 2023 ACC Tournament debut on Thursday at 7 PM ET versus North Carolina State at Durham Athletic Park. The Miami football program had recruiting updates on a few 2024 prospects on Wednesday. Also on Wednesday, the ACC announced a new revenue model.
North Carolina State opened Pool D with an 8-7 win over Duke in 11 innings on Tuesday. That sets up a winner take all game between Miami and NC State on Thursday for Pool D. If Miami defeats NC State they would clinch a berth in the semifinals ahead of its final pool game on Friday afternoon versus Duke.
Five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott announced a top-five of Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State. Scott has official visits scheduled in June with all but Notre Dame in his top five. Miami is the favorite for a commitment from Scott per On3 and one 247 Sports Crystal Ball.
Three-star Miami Columbus defensive lineman Daylen Russell is down to the Hurricanes, Nebraska and Louisville per Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U. Russell will announce his college destination on Saturday night. On3 projects Miami with an 87.1 percent chance for a commitment from Russell.
The ACC issued a press release on Wednesday that the “ACC Board of Directors Announces Endorsement of Success Incentives.” Miami Athletic Director Dan Radakovich had a major part in the new revenue model that will reward teams that have postseason success. That should help Miami.
Canes Country publisher Marcus Benjamin wrote that “History tells us Miami will win seven to nine games in 2023.” Benjamin mentioned that Miami has won only five games in a season three times in the last 30 years. Miami finished 9-3 in 1998 after going 5-6 and won seven games in 2007 after five wins in 2006.
David Lake of Inside the U took “A look at the changes UM has made on the back seven and how the group can improve in 2023.” Lake likes the projected starting linebacker tandem of Wesley Bissainthe and Francisco Mauigoa and the depth that Miami should have at cornerback. Miami has great talent at safety as well.
