The Miami Hurricanes baseball team plays its first game in the 2023 NCAA Tournament on Friday night at 7:00 PM versus Maine. Miami center Matt Lee moved from 66th to 26th in the final 247 Sports transfer rankings. Cornerback Terry Roberts re-entered the transfer portal after joining Miami from Iowa in January.

The Miami Hurricanes baseball team earned its 49th NCAA Tournament berth and will be hosting a regional for the 29th time this season. Louisiana and Texas are the other two teams in the Coral Gables Regional. The losers will play on Saturday afternoon and the winners later that night in the double-elimination format.

Lee is rated by Pro Football Focus as the highest-graded returning center in college football for 2023. In the 247 Sports composite transfer rankings Lee is the fourth-best interior offensive lineman. Miami guard Javion Cohen is first. The Miami OL should be greatly improved for 2023 led by Cohen and Lee.

Matt Zenitz of On3 reported on Thursday that Roberts had entered the transfer portal. Mario Cristobal and secondary coach Jahmile Addae have been busy adding depth for Miami at CB. Roberts signed with Iowa in 2018. In his tenure with the Hawkeyes Roberts played in 33 games with four starts.

Bruce Brown became the first Miami Hurricanes alum to play in the NBA Finals since James Jones went to eight in a row with the Heat and Cavaliers from 2011 through 2018. Brown scored 10 points had five rebounds and two assists and the Denver Nuggets beat the Heat 104-93 on Thursday night.

Matt Connolly of On3 wrote about “Explaining pressure added on Tyler Van Dyke in 2023.” Van Dyke regressed in 2022 after a breakout 2021 season. The fall of Van Dyke in 2022 was largely due to the poor offensive fit of former offensive coordinator Josh Gattis and an injured shoulder.

Jeff Goodman of Stadium reported on Thursday that Rutgers transfer guard Cam Spencer visited Miami earlier this week. Spencer who is an efficient three-point shooter would add critical depth and experience for Miami on the wing in 2023-24. The starting lineup for Miami is likely set entering the 2023-34 season.
