The Miami football program ranks 12th nationally in the 247 Sports 2023 Blue Chip Ratio. Miami has a blue chip ratio of 61 percent. That means that 61 percent of players on the Miami roster were four or five-star signees with the Hurricanes. The rankings do not account for transfers.

Miami is second in both the ACC and among Florida programs. Clemson is fifth overall nationally and first in the ACC with a 72 percent blue chip ratio. Florida is 11th nationally and first in the Sunshine State with a 64 percent blue chip ratio. Only 18 rosters entering the 2023 season have a blue chip ratio of at least 50 percent.

Bud Elliott of 247 Sports has examined the blue-chip ratio for 10 years. Every year of the College Football Playoff era that dates to 2015 has produced a national champion with at least a 50 percent blue chip ratio. As expected, Alabama has the highest blue ratio nationally at 90 percent.

The 2023 Miami signing class is a bit higher than the 61 percent average with 16 of the 24 players four stars. Expect Mario Cristobal to continue reaching a blue chip ratio of around 60 percent. Miami has one four-star commit for 2024 and eight three-star commits. Those numbers should change in the next month.

Miami hosts week Texas A&M week two on September 9. The Aggies are fourth nationally with a 73 percent blue chip ratio. The SEC has the most programs with six above a 50 percent blue chip ratio. The Big 10 is second with three, followed by the ACC, Big XII and Pac 12 with two each. No Group of Five programs are at 50 percent.

The Big XII will lose both of its programs that have a blue chip ratio of 50 percent when Oklahoma and Texas leave for the SEC in 2024. Per Elliott, none of the other Big 12 teams are close to a 50 percent blue chip ratio. Oregon will remain the only Pac-12 program with a blue chip ratio of 50 percent when USC leaves for the Big 10 in 2024.
