The Miami football team ranks sixth nationally in the “College football transfer portal 2023 rankings…with most Top247 departures” with five players. Florida, South Carolina and Texas also lost five top 247 transfers. Alabama tops nine teams with 11 top 247 players who transferred. Miami has the seventh-best transfer class.
Defensive lineman Darrell Jackson is the lone top-100 transfer the Miami football program lost. Jackson transferred to Florida State to be closer to home. Miami also lost safety Avantae Williams, quarterback Jake Garcia, interior offensive lineman Jakai Clark and offensive tackle John Campbell.
Campbell, Clark and Jackson were regular starters in 2022. Garcia and Williams seldom played. Garcia and Williams came to Miami as prized signees who never reached their potential. Miami signed 14 2023 transfers. The Hurricanes have the seventh-best transfer class. Miami has seven top 247 transfers.
Guard Javion Cohen is the highest-rated Miami transfer. Cohen is 10th overall and the highest-rated offensive lineman in the 247 Sports transfer rankings. Center Matt Lee and middle linebacker Francisco Mauigoa are among the other top 247 Miami transfers with the rest of the list

Losing Jackson is expected to have the biggest impact on the 2023 Miami football team. Miami has to hope 6’7, 265-pound defensive lineman Anthony Campbell can fill the void with the loss of Jackson. Clark and Campbell have been replaced by Cohen and Lee who are higher rated in the 247 Sports transfer rankings.
Garcia left for Missouri and Williams for Maryland where they will both have a chance to compete for a starting position. Jaccuri Brown passed Garcia on the Miami depth chart last season. Kamren Kinchens and James Williams are established as the Miami starting safeties for the second straight season.
Miami has improved its depth at cornerback, on the defensive line and running back, brought in Mauigoa as the projected starting middle LB and added depth and speed at wide receiver with Tyler Harrell through the transfer portal. The majority of the transfers added to the Miami roster should have an impact in 2023.
