Miami Hurricanes News: Mauigoa recognition, transfer update
Miami Hurricanes offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa was named by 247 Sports as their representative among the true impact freshman for each ACC team. Miami is sixth nationally with five players lost to the portal among the top 247 (Sports) transfers. Canes County examined what the presence of Mauigoa means for Miami.
Mauigoa is the highest-rated 2023 signee in the ACC. Most projections expect Mauigoa to begin the 2023 season as the starting right tackle. Mauigoa and fellow five-star OT Samson Okunlola are expected the anchor the Miami offensive line in the future. David Lake of Inside the U praised Mauigoa’s athleticism.
Marcus Benjamin of Canes County examined “What freshman Mauigoa starting for Miami means for the Miami Hurricanes.” Benjamin expects Mauigoa to elevate veterans and peers, Recruits will feel like they can earn playing time at Miami and create a pillar for the O-Line for years to come.
Jakai Clark, John Campbell, Jake Garcia, Darrell Jackson and Avantae Williams were all top 247 transfers that left Miami. In turn, Miami added seven top 247 transfers to the 2023 roster. Miami is tied with Florida State, South Carolina and Texas in top 247 transfers lost. Alabama’s 11 top 247 transfers out are the most.
Matt Zenitz of On3 named the Miami football team the eighth biggest winner in the spring transfer portal. Zenitz named the additions of Oklahoma cornerback transfer Jaden Davis, Nebraska running back transfer Ajay Allen and Alabama wide receiver transfer Tyler Harrell by Miami this spring.
The Miami basketball program announced the hiring of former student manager Jacob Klee as the Assistant Director of Operations. Since graduating from Miami in May 2020 Klee was a graduate assistant at the University of Missouri–Kansas City and an assistant coach at Western Connecticut State University.
Brian Smith of All Hurricanes wrote about the 2024 Miami prospects on the offensive line and at cornerback and what the overall theme of the class should be. Smith expects the 2024 Miami class to increase significantly over the next five weeks. The foundation of the 2023 Miami class was set with June official visits.
