Miami Hurricanes News: Gino DiMare resigns, FB adds JC CB
After five seasons as head coach of the Miami Hurricanes baseball program Gino DiMare resigned on Thursday. The Miami football program added the College of San Mateo (California) cornerback Demetrius Freeney on Thursday. The Miami Women’s Basketball Team is 23rd in the women’s basketball post-transfer portal Top 25.
The resignation by DiMare came four days after the Miami Hurricanes baseball team was eliminated from the NCAA Baseball Tournament in the regionals at home. DiMare was 168-86 in five seasons as the Miami head coach. DiMare stated he chose to resign after evaluating this past season.
Freeney is the fourth CB that has transferred to Miami during the 2023 off-season. At 6’1 and 185 pounds, Freeney provides Miami with more length at CB. Miami previously added Davonte Brown from Central Florida, Jaden Davis from Oklahoma and Jaidus Richard from Vanderbilt as transfer CBs for 2023.
Katie Meier has rebuilt the Miami roster after losing the Cavinders and Destiny Harden following the run to the first Elite Eight in Hurricanes’ history. Miami and Meier added four transfers and returns key players Jasmyne Roberts and Ja’Leah Roberts to the 2023-24 roster on a team that could contend in the ACC.
The Miami football program has its biggest weekend of official visits in a month full of them. Miami will host 14 2024 prospects in Coral Gables this weekend. Five-star prospects, edge rushers Colin Simmons and Dylan Stewart, CB Ellis Robinson IV and defensive lineman David Stone will all visit Miami this weekend.
Keegan Pope of On3 previewed the weekend of official visits for Miami. Miami is not trending for any of the five-star visitors. The Hurricanes are gaining, but Pope states Miami needs to continue laying the groundwork this weekend followed by a strong performance on the field during the 2023 season.
