Miami Hurricanes News: FB adds transfer LB, national QB rankings
The Miami Hurricanes added experience and size at linebacker with Louisville graduate transfer K.J. Cloyd announcing on Sunday he is joining the Hurricanes. Cam Mellor of the College Football Network ranked the Miami quarterback corps 92nd nationally. A few recruits are trending to Miami after official visits this weekend.
Cloyd is transferring to Miami after playing under Miami LB coach Derek Nicholson the last three years with the Cardinals. Cloyd was primarily a special teams player with Louisville. In three seasons with the Cardinals Cloyd had only one start. At 6’2 and 229 pounds, Cloyd provides Miami another bigger LB.
Mellor ranked the Miami QBs 92nd nationally as a unit and 11th out of the 14 ACC teams. Mellor questionably stated there is no clear cut leader to earn the starting nod at QB. Tyler Van Dyke is then mentioned by Mellor as the defacto leader to be the starter. It would be shocking if Jacurri Brown passes Van Dyke to start.
After a commitment from 2024 linebacker Cameron Pruitt on Saturday night, the Miami Hurricanes football program should gain more commitments from prospects who took official visits this weekend. Miami leads for 6’1.5 and 215 pound three-star LB Keyshawn Flowers with a 30 percent chance for a commitment per On3.
Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal was pumped up after the weekend. The Hurricanes hosted four five-star prospects and 14 in total for official visits this past weekend. If Miami has a high hit rate from the official visitors this weekend the 2024 class could zoom into the top 10 classes nationally.
Marcus Benjamin wrote for Canes County that “(offensive line coach Alex) Mirabal and (defensive line coach Jason, are) Taylor building Miami from the trenches.” When he was hired Cristobal stated he would make the line of scimmate a priority. Benjamin spoke to Miami players and prospects about Mirabal and Taylor.
