Miami Hurricanes News: FB newcomers arrivals, Bruce Brown shines
The Miami Hurricanes welcomed about 15 new arrivals on Monday. Miami basketball alum Bruce Brown scored the winning basket as the Denver Nuggets won the NBA Championship over the Heat on Monday night. Miami freshman second baseman Blake Cyr was named a first-team freshman All-American on Monday.
The Miami Hurricanes newcomers to the football program that arrived on Monday are a mix of freshmen and transfers. Several will have a chance to compete for significant roles this season. Newcomers to watch are running back Mark Fletcher and transfer cornerback Jaden Davis and wide receiver Tyler Harrell.
Brown scored 10 points, had six rebounds, the game-winning basket with 1:31 remaining and his two free throws were the final scores for Denver in a 94-89 win over the Heat on Monday night. The win is the first NBA title for Denver in their 47th year in the Association. That is the longest wait for a team to win the title.
Cyr hit. 306 with 17 home runs and 63 runs batted in this season as Miami finished 42-21. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America named Cyr a first-team All-American. Cyr previously was named first-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball. Cyr will be a cornerstone player for the new Miami baseball coach.

Four-star Chicago Kenwood WR Marquis Lightfoot announced at top six Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Miami, Ohio State and USC. Two crystal balls projecting Lightfoot to Ohio State were logged by 247 Sports on Monday. That included one from 247 Sports national recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong.
David Lake of Inside the U wrote that “Miami is improving the outlook at linebacker by devoting numbers to the position group.” Lake examined the history of LB at Miami and the talent the Hurricanes have added since Mario Cristobal was hired in December 2021. That includes commits in the 2024 class.
Miami received a commitment from 2024 three-star LB Cameron Pruitt on Saturday night and Louisville transfer K.J. Cloyd on Sunday. That is in addition to three-star LB Vincent Shavers who was previously committed for 2024. Miami has improved its length and size at LB for 2023 and beyond.
