Rivals changing Joshisa Trader from WR to athlete is notable
The change by Rivals of five-star 2024 prospect Joshisa Trader from wide receiver to an athlete was notable. Adam Gorney the Rivals.com National Recruiting Director noted that the recruiting website moved Trader from WR to athlete with the potential of playing defense back in his weekly column on Tuesday.
The Rivals.Com Future Cast lists Miami with a 100 percent chance for a commitment from Joshisa Trader. Programs have primarily been recruiting Trader at WR. ESPN and On3 still list Trader as a WR. Trader has primarily played offense for Hollywood Chaminade Madonna during his high school career.
In the last two seasons, Trader has recorded 73 receptions for 1,335 yards and 13 touchdowns. On defense, Trader has four assisted tackles and one interception that he returned 90 yards for a TD. Players often change positions once they get to college. What position Trader winds up at could depend on where he signs.
The likelihood is that Trader plays WR. Rivals changing his position from WR to athlete indicates there are certainly some recruiting analysts who want to keep open what position Trader plays in college. In addition to his position depending on where Trader signs it could also depend on need. Gorney summarized Trader.
"“We decided to move…Joshisa Trader from receiver to the athlete position. Trader wants to play receiver in college – and he’s a fantastic one as Ohio State, Florida State and Miami stand out most – but many believe he’s an even better defensive back and he showed that ability at the OT7 in Phoenix this offseason. It will be something to watch.”"
In the most recent update for Trader on March 19, Trader was the 13th-ranked player nationally, the second prospect in Florida and second at his position which was WR at the time. Trader is listed as the 21st-best 2024 prospect, second athlete and fifth-best player in Florida by 247 Sports.
It will be interesting to see if ESPN and On3 follow 247 Sports and Rivals in listing Trader as an athlete. Trader has no official visits scheduled per his 247 Sports and On3 profiles. On3 projects Miami with a 91.8 percent chance for a Trader commitment. Florida State an Miami each have a 247 Sports crystal ball for Trader.
