Miami Football Big 10 Non-Opponents
The Miami football program has an extensive history versus most of the Big 10. Illinois and Minnesota are the only two out of the 14 current Big 10 programs Miami has not played. Penn State is the most frequent Miami opponent among the 14 Big 10 programs. Miami and Penn State have played 13 times.
Miami has played Penn State only four times since they joined the Big 10 for the 1991 football season. The Nittany Lions were a major power as an independent before joining the Big 10. Penn State leads the all-time series with Miami 7-6. Miami is 3-1 versus Penn State since the Nittany Lions joined the Big 10.
The most common ACC opponent for Illinois is Syracuse. Illinois is 10-2 all-time versus Syracuse. Miami split four games with Illinois’ in-state rival Northwestern between 1961 and 1968. Miami has won all four games it played versus Iowa and is 2-4 versus Wisconsin. Iowa and Wisconsin are Minnesota’s two biggest rivals.
Miami lost 38-17 versus Michigan State 2021 in its most recent game versus a Big 10 opponent. No Big 10 teams are scheduled as future Miami opponents. Illinois will next play an ACC opponent when it opens the 2025 season at Duke. Minnesota will play on September 23 at North Carolina in its second game of 2023.
