The Miami football program is trending for four-star defensive lineman Artavius Jones following his official visit this weekend. The recruitment of Jones is a two-team race according to On3.Com. Miami has a 53.7 percent chance for a commitment per On3. Central Florida is second with a 35.5 percent chance for a Jones commitment.
The On3 composite rankings list Jones as the 165th prospect, 20th DL and 26th recruit in Florida in the 2024 class. Three-star DL Daylen Russell is the only player on the defensive front committed to the Miami football program in the 2024 class. DL coach Jason Taylor is the primary recruiter for Jones.
Miami tight ends coach Cody Woodiel is the secondary recruiter for Jones. The only other official visit Jones has taken was to Central Florida earlier this month. Jones has taken unofficial visits to Central Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, Miami and Tennessee. No other visits are scheduled for Jones per 247 Sports.
Jones had 58 tackles, 14.0 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, a pass breakup, one interception, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. On offense, Jones added eight receptions for 142 yards and a touchdown. Jones also averaged 10.6 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game for the Blountstown, Florida basketball team.
The common theme for Jones following this weekend is that Miami feels like home to him. Charles Power, the Director of Scouting and Recruiting for On3 said that Jones “makes flash plays on both sides of the ball.” The numbers Jones put up on offense and defense prove that he is a playmaker.
Miami will need to add depth at defensive tackle following the 2023 season. Leonard Taylor is likely headed to the NFL Draft. Jared Harrison-Hunte will also be eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft. Backup Jacob Lichtenstein is entering his final year of eligibility. Jones should have a chance to compete for snaps in 2024 as a true freshman.
