4 Miami football commits play on Max Preps preseason top 25 teams

Miami football commits tight end Elija Lofton, linebacker Vincent Shavers, wide receiver Chance Robinson and defensive lineman Daylen Russell are on teams ranked in the Max Preps preseason Top 25. Miami currently has the 30th-ranked 2024 class with more commitments expected in the next week.

Lofton plays for the preseason second-ranked team nationally, Las Vegas Bishop Gorman. The Gaels won their 12th state championship in the last 13 years and 19th overall last season. Bishop Gorman finished 14-1 overall. Lofton has 52 receptions for 1,263 yards and has averaged 24.3 yards per reception with 19 touchdowns.

Lofton also contributed 10 carries for 102 rushing yards and seven TDs in 2022. Lofton is the 340th-ranked prospect, 17th TE and the top player in Nevada in the Class of 2024. At 6’2 and 220 pounds, Lofton has the physique ready to play in college. The comp for Lofton is former Miami and Bishop Gorman TE Brevin Jordan.

Shavers plays for Miami Central which is the fifth-ranked team in the country. The Rockets were 14-0 in 2022 and earned their fourth straight state title. Shavers transferred to Miami Central from Monsignor Pace. Shavers had 56 tackles, 10 quarterback hits, eight sacks, two pass breakups, two and an interception in 2022.

The 247 Sports composite rankings list Shavers as the 763rd prospect, 69th LB and 109th recruit in Florida in the 2024 class. Cameron Pruitt and Shavers are committed to Miami at LB for 2024. Five Miami signees in the 2023 class are listed at LB. Miami also signed Washington transfer LB Francisco Mauigoa.

Robinson plays for ninth-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas. The Raiders finished 14-0 last season to win the 3M state championship. Robinson had 29 receptions for 540 yards and 13 TDs in 2022. Robinson is the 149th prospect, 21st WR and 24th in Florida in the Class of 2024. Expect another outstanding season from Robinson in 2023.

Russell plays for Columbus who is rated 23rd in the Max Prep preseason top 25. Columbus finished 14-1 and 23rd nationally at the end of the 2022 season. Russell has 108 tackles, 14 TFLs, 11 sacks, one pass defended, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles in the last two seasons.

Russell is the 1138th-ranked prospect, the 106th DL and the 153rd player in Florida in the 2024 class. At 6’1 and 235 pounds, Russell will need to put on more weight when he joins the Miami football program. Miami is adding championship players to its 2024 class which should help the culture in the future.
