Crystal ball surge to Miami football for 4-star WR Jacory Barney
Four-star wide receiver Jacory Barney had a surge of 247 crystal balls to the Miami football program in the last 24 hours. Barney was originally trending to Nebraska before the crystal balls changed to Miami. Steve Wiltfong 247 Sports Director of Football Recruiting and four Nebraska writers project Barney to Miami.
The crystal ball flips came after Barney took his official visit to Miami this weekend. Barney is the 415th-ranked prospect, 35th athlete and 62nd player in the 2024 class per the 247 Sports Composite rankings. Barney is also trending to Miami via On3 with the Hurricanes having a 71.1 percent chance for a commitment.
Nebraska is second with a 27.5 percent chance for a commitment from Barney. Four-star WR Chance Robinson is the only wideout currently committed to the Miami football program for 2024. Barney and Robinson both took their official visits to Miami this weekend. Barney would be another key South Florida commit,
The Palmetto star was a versatile performer in the last two seasons. Barney has completed 24 of 33 passes for 341 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions, has 27 carries for 251 yards rushing and three TDs in the last two seasons. Barney had 37 receptions for 559 yards and four TDs in 2022.
Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson will gain a playmaker no matter where he chooses to line up Barney on offense. Andrew Ivins of 247 Sports states that Barney has lined up on offense and defense but that WR is where his highest ceiling is. Barney has run track but will need to add weight at 6’0 and 160 pounds.
Ivins views Barney as a potential difference maker for a Power Five program with the ability to add value to special teams. Barney would fit in well with a Miami program that already has Breshard Smith and Nathaniel Joseph as speedy and versatile players. Barney would be the fourth highest-rated player in the 2024 Miami class.
