The addition of defensive line coach Jason Taylor to the Miami football staff is helping the Hurricanes in recruiting in multiple ways. For the first time since 2019, the 2024 Miami football class has commitments from St. Thomas Aquinas. Taylor was on the St. Thomas Aquinas staff from 2017 through 2021.

Miami has not recruited well for an extended period of time at St. Thomas Aquinas. Prior to 2024 commits, four-star wide receiver Chance Robinson and three-star defensive back Ryan Mack the last Miami signee from St. Thomas Aquinas was four-star linebacker Avery Huff in the 2019 class. Huff transferred to FIU in January.

Recruiting St. Thomas Aquinas well would be a boost to the Miami football program. Robinson is the 149th-ranked player, 21st WR and 24th player in Florida in the 2024 class. Mack is the 514th prospect, 50th safety and 75th recruit in Florida in the 2024 class. Mack’s father Rod was a Miami linebacker in the 1990s.

Seven of the top 100 players in Florida in the Class of 2024 are from St. Thomas Aquinas. Three-star St. Thomas Aquinas cornerback Romanas Frederique Jr. who committed to West Virginia earlier this month took an official visit with the Miami football program this past weekend.

Mack and Robinson are the only high school teammates committed to the Miami football program in the 2024 class. Miami signed five-star tackle Francis Mauigoa, interior offensive lineman Antonio Tripp, tight end Riley Williams and edge rusher Jayden Wayne from IMG Academy as high school teammates in the 2023 class.

Miami also added twins, Bobby and Robby Washington from Palmetto and cornerback Davonte Brown and running back Mark Fletcher from American Heritage in the 2023 class. Mack and Robinson are the first pair of teammates from St. Thomas Aquinas in a Miami class since 2014.

Miami signed defensive tackle Anthony Moten and offensive lineman Nick Linder in the 2014 class. The connections that Taylor has to St. Thomas Aquinas should help Miami recruit future Raiders prospects. Recruiting St. Thomas Aquinas well will help the future Miami recruiting classes.
