Offensive linemen Javion Cohen and Matt Lee, defensive lineman Branson Deen, linebacker Francisco Mauigoa and cornerback Davonte Brown are Miami football players who have been named to the Athlon Sports ACC All-Transfer Portal Team for 2023.” Several Miami players were named others to watch.

Steven Lassan wrote “The additions of Cohen and Lee should help Miami’s offensive line take a major step forward in coach Mario Cristobal’s second year” in the summary of the transfer OL for Athlon Sports. Cohen and Lee are part of a rebuilt Miami OL with five likely new starters from the end of the 2022 season.

Deen is a surprising selection to the ACC All-Transfer Portal team for 2023. Leonard Taylor is entrenched as a starting DT for the Miami football team in 2023. Deen will compete with returnee Jared Harrison-Hunte and fellow transfers Anthony Campbell and Thomas Gore for snaps at DT during the 2023 season.

Lassan expects “Mauigoa’s arrival after collecting 60 tackles last season at Washington State will help to boost the weakest group on Miami’s defense.” At 6’3 and 230 pounds, Mauigoa adds needed size to Miami at LB and is expected to start in the middle. Mauigoa had 60 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 2022.

Brown will compete to be a starter for Miami at CB with returnee Darryl Porter Jr. and fellow transfers Jaden Davis and Jaiden Richard. Brown provides Miami with excellent length at 6’2 and 185 pounds. After losing eight defensive backs to the transfer portal, Production from Brown, Davis and Richard will be critical for Miami.
