Miami Hurricanes News: Baseball updates, transfer portal stats
The Miami Hurricanes baseball team hired Nova Southeastern head coach Laz Gutierrez as the new pitching coach under J.D. Arteaga, pitcher Karson Ligon entered the transfer portal and pitcher Andrew Walters and third baseman Yohandy Morales were named all-Americans. A pair of Tweets examined football transfer stats.
Gutirrez was 86-63 as the head coach at Nova Southeastern since 2020. The Sharks did not qualify for the Division II NCAA Tournament under Gutierrez. Prior to becoming head coach at Nova Southeastern Gutirrez was a scout, minor league pitching coach and mental skills coordinator for 13 years in the Red Sox organization.
As reported by Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.Com Miami starting pitcher Karson Ligon entered the transfer portal on Thursday. In two seasons with Miami Ligon was 9-8 with a 4.86 earned run average, allowing 126 hits in 126 innings pitched with 52 walks, 104 strikeouts and a 1.413 WHIP.
Miami closer Andrew Walters earned first-team D1 Baseball All-American as one of only three players making the team for the second year in a row. Miami third baseman Yohandy Morales earned third team as a designated hitter. Walters had 11 saves and a 1.23 ERA. Morales hit .408 with 20 home runs and 66 runs batted in.
Pick Six Previews pointed out earlier this month that LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Oregon and USC are the only five schools that signed a top 10 recruiting class and transfer portal class in 2023. The Miami Hurricanes signed the eighth-rated 2023 recruiting class and seventh-best transfer class.

Miami added 11 transfers i 2022 and 15 in 2023.
