The Miami football team is ninth in the Pro Football Focus ACC Power Rankings that were recently posted. Miami enters the 2023 season after finishing 5-7 in 2022 and with the conference eliminating divisions beginning this year. Miami plays five of the eight teams ranked ahead of them in the PFF Power Rankings.
Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and Boston College who are the three teams at the bottom of the PFF ACC Power Rankings are on the 2023 Miami football schedule. The 2023 Miami schedule is back-loaded. Miami has an opportunity to begin the season 5-0. Expect Miami to be favored in four of the first five games in 2023.
Miami opens the season on September 1 versus Miami (Ohio), hosts Texas A&M in week two, followed by Bethune-Cookman and a visit to Temple. After a bye week, Miami hosts Georgia Tech. Miami is a 17.0-point favorite versus Miami (Ohio) and a 7.5-point underdog at home versus Texas A&M per FanDuel odds.
No other odds are out for Miami games ahead of the 2023 season. Expect Miami to be an underdog in games at North Carolina, North Carolina State and Florida State and at home versus Clemson. Miami versus Louisville on November 18 is too far out to project the favorite entering the season.
Miami is 29th entering the season in the ESPN Football Power Index. Clemson is first among ACC teams in the FPI with a ranking of eighth nationally. Florida State is second in the ACC and eighth nationally in the FPI and North Carolina is third and 25th as the only teams ranked ahead of Miami.
The FPI projections have Miami at 7.8 wins and 4.5 losses. Miami has a 94.3 percent chance to win six games and become bowl eligible, a 21.8 percent chance to make the ACC Championship game and 6.3 percent to win the title. The path to the ACC title game is far more difficult with the elimination of divisions.
