The Miami football program almost always plays one or two Group of Five opponents in their non-conference games. Miami has played 10 of their 22 Group of Five opponents without a loss multiple times. Miami has defeated Army, FAU, Miami (Ohio) and Toledo three times each without a loss.
The Miami football program opens the 2023 season versus Miami (Ohio). Miami leads the all-time series versus Miami (Ohio) 3-0. The Hurricanes defeated the Redhawks 27-13 in 1945, 20-17 in 1946 and 54-3 in 1987. All three games were in Miami. Miami (Ohio) plays Miami at Hard Rock Stadium on September 1 this season.
Miami has defeated Central Michigan, Colorado State, Connecticut, Marshall, Nevada, North Texas, Northern Illinois, San Jose State Southern Mississippi, Troy, UAB, UNLV and Utah State once each. Air Force, Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Rice and UCF have each lost to Miami twice without a win. Most of those wins came before 1979.
Miami defeated UCF In 2008 and 2009. The Knights are moving up to the Big XII in 2023 where they are now a Power Five program. Army was a national power in the 1940s. FAU, Marshall, North Texas, Troy, UAB and UCF either have moved up from FCS or created new programs in the last 30 or so years.
