Miami Hurricanes ACC Network Sunday takeover
Miami Hurricanes programming will take over the ACC Network on Sunday. The Miami football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and soccer programs will all have games from the 2022-23 school year featured. The takeover began at midnight Sunday with the 2022 season-opening 70-13 win over Bethune-Cookman.
After Bethune-Cookman, the men’s basketball win over Duke at 3 AM ET, the baseball team’s win at North Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest, a 3-1 win by the women’s soccer team at Virginia Tech airing at 8 AM ET, men’s basketball versus Virginia, the football spring game and two women’s NCAA Tournament wins.
A tweet by the Miami Hurricanes’ official athletic account on Saturday afternoon did not specify which baseball wins over North Carolina and North Carolina State would air. Miami defeated UNC 5-4 and 4-3 in April. Miami won 9-8 and 8-1 versus NC State in March before losing 14-4 in the series finale.
The Miami soccer team finished 5-8-3 overall and 2-7-1 in 12th place out of 14 teams in the ACC. Virginia Tech was 10-7-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the ACC. Miami scored the first three goals of the game versus Virginia Tech before the Hokies ended the shutout at 81:17. Miami won despite eight shots on goal to 14 for Virginia Tech.
The win for the Miami basketball team over Virginia was pivotal during their ACC Co-Championship season. Miami and Virginia tied for the ACC regular season title with 15-5 conference records. Miami made five free throws in the final 23 seconds to hold off Virginia 66-64 in the third ACC game of the season.
Miami led Duke by as many as 17 points in the first half before taking a 40-26 lead at halftime. A 9-0 run to start the second half extended the Miami lead to 49-26. The lead was 20 throughout most of the second half in an 81-59 Miami win. Duke later avenged the loss in the ACC Tournament semifinal.
The Miami women’s basketball had their own amazing NCAA Tournament run that coincided with the run the men had to the Final Four. Miami upset number one seed Indiana in the second round on the Hoosier’s home floor. The win over Indiana was followed by an upset over fourth-seed Villanova in the regional semifinal.
After getting swept at Wake Forest in April, fourth-seeded Miami upset the top-seeded Demon Deacons 7-2 in the ACC Tournament Semifinals. Miami never trailed after taking the lead in the top of the third on a two-run Yohandy Morales single. Morales scorched Wake Forest for three hits, two home runs and four RBIs.
