CBS Sports ranks Mario Cristobal job security
After a less-than-desirable 5-7 inaugural season in 2022, the job security for Mario Cristobal was rated as “All Good for Now” or a two out of five in the “2023 College Football Hot Seat Rankings: Evaluating the job security of all 133 FBS coaches” by CBS Sports that was published on Tuesday.
Dennis Dodd wrote the job security rankings for CBS Sports. The six-level rankings are three coaches nationally with that are a five who need to win or be fired, four with a four who need to start improving now, 16 at three who the pressure is mounting, 52 with a two that includes Cristobal with a two and All good…for now.
Dodd lists 42 coaches with a ranking of one and safe and secure. Fifteen coaches are listed as a zero or untouchable. Cristobal was listed as zero, or untouchable entering his first season in 2022. When he was hired in December 2021, Cristobal was the prodigal son as a National Championship player returning home.
Miami enters the 2023 season with muted expectations following its disappointing 2022 campaign. Mario Cristobal made over nearly half the coaching staff for 2023. Miami also signed 26 players in its 2023 class and added 16 transfers. Molding the new faces in the Miami football program will be critical in 2023.
Miami must show improvement during the 2023 season. Cristobal will not be on the hot seat with a bad season, but critics will get louder. If Miami has a disappointing 2023 season followed by another one in 2024 and his job security would likely rise to win start improving now in level four as rated by Dodd.
Despite finishing 5-7 in 2022 Miami signed the seventh best 2023 class. Miami currently has the 21st-best 2024 class. The outcome of the 2023 season should impact where Miami finishes in the 2024 class rankings. Cristobal was hired in part because of his prowess as a recruiter. That needs to translate to on-field success.
