Miami football gets needed playmaker with 2024 5-star WR Joshisa Trader
The Miami football program earned its first five-star commitment in the Class of 2024 with a pledge from wide receiver Joshisa Trader on Thursday. Trader pushes Miami to the 16th ranked 2024 class from the 21st prior to his commitment. Miami will have at least three five-star recruits under Mario Cristobal in the last two classes.
Miami signed five-star offensive tackles Francis Mauigoa and Samson Okunlola in the 2023 class. Trader is the 25th-ranked prospect, third athlete and fifth recruit in Florida in the Class of 2024 according to the 247 Sports Composite rankings. Trader is the second WR committed to Miami for 2024 after four-star Chance Robinson.
Miami has 17 commitments in the 2024 class following the commitment from Trader. Six of the 2024 Miami commitments are four or five-star prospects. Trader is the first 2024 Miami commit ranked in the top 100 2024 prospects by 247 Sports. With Trader 6’1″ and Robinson 6.1.5″ Miami is adding needed length at WR for 2024.
Wide receivers coach Kevin Beard led the recruitment for Trader. Gaining commitments from Robinson and Trader in the 2024 class is enormous for Miami. Expect new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson to utilize the strengths that Robinson and Trader will provide to the Miami football program.
Miami is tapping into the deep talent in South Florida in the 2024 class. In addition to Robinson and Trader, Miami has commitments from linebacker Vincent Shavers, defensive backs Ryan Mack and Romanas Fredrique, defensive lineman Daylen Russell and running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey for 2024.
The commitment from Trader is also significant for Miami getting a top WR from South Florida. Most of the top WRs recently have signed elsewhere. Trader combined for 73 receptions for 1,335 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. Trader is listed as an athlete because he has played offense and defense in high school.
Miami projects Trader as a WR as evidenced by Beard leading his recruitment. Trader is the best commitment to what is becoming an elite recruiting class for Miami at the offensive skill positions. In addition to Robinson and Trader, Miami also has commitments from four-star RB Kevin Riley and tight end Elija Lofton.
