The Miami Hurricanes football program received its 17th commitment in the 2024 class from four-star defensive lineman Artavius Jones on Friday. Miami basketball alums Jordan Miller and Isaiah Wong played their last scheduled games in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas on Friday.

The commitment from Jones moved the 2024 Miami Hurricanes football class to 14th. Miami entered Friday 16th on Friday morning following a commitment from five-star wide receiver Joshisa Trader on Thursday. Prior to the commitment from Trader Miami had the 21st ranked class entering Thursday.

Miller scored six points on 3-8 from the floor and 0-1 on three-point attempts with three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block as the Clippers won 102-91 over Sacramento. Wong had six points on 3-9 from the floor, 0-3 on threes with two rebounds and three assists in a Pacers loss to Dallas.

David Lake of Inside the U took “A look at the job Mario Cristobal has done with flipping the personnel on offense via high school recruiting.” Miami has added 26 players in their 2023 class and added 16 transfers during the offseason. Cristobal and his staff have flipped almost half the Miami roster since the end of 2022.

Steve Kraning of Rivals did a video review of Trader following his commitment on Thursday. Kraning covered Trader’s frame, ball skills, explosiveness and athleticism. In his analysis, Kraning said Trader is “Pound for pound one of the best athletes Miami has added to its recruiting class in a long time.”

Cody Nagel of 247 Sports askedAre tense recruiting battles behind Oklahoma coach Brent Venables’ jab at Miami?” As Nagel described “The Sooners’ coach made an indirect, snarky comment about the ‘Canes” during an appearance on Sirius XM radio on Thursday. Oklahoma trails Miami with the 26th-ranked 2024 class.

Brian Smith of All Hurricanes wrote about Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke being ranked as the eighth-best quarterback in the ACC by Athlon Sports. Smith felt the ranking is harsh and quoted Athlon Sports. Smith mentioned the QBs ranked in the top three in the ACC. Athlon blamed Van Dyke’s 2022 fall on multiple factors.
