Redshirt freshman cornerback Chris Graves announced he is “official in the transfer portal…” and leaving the Miami football program. As a true freshman in 2022 Graves did not see any game action according to his profile on MiamiHurricanes.Com. Graves was the 125th prospect, seventh athlete and 18th recruit in Florida in the 2022 class.
The Miami football program has remade its CB depth chart during the 2023 off-season. Miami added Davonte Brown from Central Florida, Jaden Davis from Oklahoma and Jadais Richard from Vanderbilt as transfers during the 2023 offseason. Miami signed Damari Brown and Robert Stafford in the 2023 class.
Graves is the second 2022 signee at CB to leave the Miami football program. Khamauri Rogers transferred to Mississippi State in December. Former three-star signee Jaden Harris who was added to the Miami class after Mario Cristobal was hired in December 2021, is the only 2022 CB signee remaining on the roster.
Rogers was the fifth highest-rated player in the 2022 Miami class and Graves was sixth. Graves signed with Miami out of Fort Myers Bishop Verot. Miami CB Malik Curtis who signed with Miami in the 2021 class was a high school teammate of Graves and they are cousins. Graves was a two-way star in high school.
Graves had 24 carries for 97 yards and two touchdowns and 62 receptions for 1,083 yards and 10 TDs during his high school career. On defense Graves had 44 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, three quarterback hurries, nine passes defended, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble in high school.
Graves also contributed on special teams with one blocked punt, three blocked field goals and 17 kickoff returns for 289 yards and a TD. The influx of new CBs to the Miami roster and not receiving playing time last year has clearly impacted the decision for Graves to leave the Miami football program. Graves is listed as a third-team CB.
LSU and South Carolina hosted Graves for official visits as well as Miami as a high school recruit. Florida hosted Graves for an unofficial visit. Graves would have to obtain a waiver for eligibility in 2023. The deadline for players to enter the transfer portal and maintain eligibility for 2023 with their first transfer was April 30.
