Redshirt freshman cornerback Chris Graves tweeted on Wednesday he is entering the transfer portal and leaving the Miami Hurricanes football program. Four-star 2024 safety Jaylen Heyward de-committed from Georgia on Tuesday and named Miami in his new top six, including the Bulldogs.

Graves signed with Miami in the 2022 class shortly after Mario Cristobal was hired as head coach. Secondary coach Jahmile Addae was hired after Graves signed. Transfer CBs Damari Brown, Jaden Davis and Jaidus Richard further pushed Graves down the depth chart. That could have led to Graves’ decision to transfer.

Heyward is the 79th prospect, fifth safety and 10th recruit in Florida in the 2024 class. Miami hosted Heyward for his official visit the weekend of June 23. Central Florida and Georgia have been the only other programs Heyward took official visits to Auburn, Clemson and Michigan are also being considered by Heyward.

David Lake of Inside the U wrote “A Position of Strength: Miami is positioned for a strong close as a top ten class is still on the table.” Lake examined the recruits Miami will need to sign to finish with a top-10 recruiting class. Miami signed the seventh-best 2023 class. Miami is in a position to go after its top 2024 prospects.

Rivals.com National Recruiting Analyst John Garcia Jr. wrote that Miami five-star wide receiver commit Joshisa Trader has the best hands in the 2024 class. Trader is the 13th rated prospect, second athlete and third ranked recruit in the 2024 class by Rivals. One of the two players ahead of Smith in Florida is teammate Jeremiah Smith.

Clint Brewster of 247 Sports wrote about the College football transfer portal: What we learned from 2022’s big disappointments.” Current Miami Hurricanes WR Tyler Harrell was included on the 247 Sports list in the categories of “what they said and what we learned.” Harrell will have a chance for redemption with Miami this season.
