Miami football: Top 10 passers in Hurricanes history
Miami football career passing leader No. 7: Craig Erikson
- 6,056 passing yards
- 46 passing touchdowns
- 22 interceptions
All Craig Erikson did at Miami was win. As a backup? Erikson oversaw two Orange Bowl victories, one of them being a National Championship. Then, in his first season starting, Erikson led the Hurricanes to their third title in program history and the first under Dennis Erikson, who was not the father of the all-time great Canes QB.
Erikson won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award during his final season in South Florida, but his road in the NFL wasn’t as celebrated outside of a 3,000-yard, 18-touchdown campaign during the 1993 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ultimately, he never spent more than three seasons with a single franchise and retired before the age of 30.
All in all, that’s not a bad life. Erikson likely never has to pay for a beer in Coral Gables for the rest of his life, and he’ll have championship hardware on his finger forever.
