Miami football career passing leader No. 4: Stephen Morris
- 7,896 passing yards
- 49 passing touchdowns
- 30 interceptions
While the Hurricanes were in the throes of their decline as a program in the late 2000s, it was Stephen Morris that had Miami humming by his senior season, when the U was a nine-win team for the first time since his arrival. Choosing not to go bowling in two of his seasons despite being eligible, Morris wasn’t exactly part of the most memorable era in South Florida.
That certainly doesn’t take away his big numbers during his junior and senior seasons, though, during which he willed his way to the top of the Canes’ passing rankings.
What’s wild about Morris’ success is that he wasn’t even in love with the sport of football. Instead, he preferred baseball due to his father bringing him to Cagni Park in North Miami. That led to him being smitten by America’s past time instead. Luckily, Morris was able to muster enough passion to lead the Canes to decent heights during a down period for the program.
