ACC Network football analyst Eric Mac Lain named Tyler Van Dyke as the fifth-best quarterback in the conference entering the 2023 season. Mac Lain ranks reigning ACC Player of the Year Drake Maye of North Carolina first, followed by Jordan Travis of Florida State, Riley Leonard of Duke and Cade Klubnik of Clemson.

Van Dyke is coming off an injured-plagued season in 2022. In 2021, Van Dyke had a breakout season. The ACC named Van Dyke the 2021 ACC Rookie of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year. Van Dyke completed 62.3 percent of his passes for 2,931 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2021 with nine starts.

Tyler Van Dyke set a record in 2021 with six consecutive games with 300 yards passing and three TDs over the final six games of the season. Even more impressive is that Van Dyke accomplished his numbers starting the nine games and with Miami opting out of its bowl game due to a covid outbreak.

Struggling with a shoulder injury throughout the second half of the 2022 season, Van Dyke completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 1,835 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. Healthy in 2023 Van Dyke expects his production much closer to his 2021 form than 2022.

Van Dyke had the breakout season in 2021 under former Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee. In addition to the injuries in 2022, Van Dyke got off to a poor start under former OC Josh Gattis. Gattis ran a pro-style offense. Van Dyke will be in a modified version of the Air Raid in 2023 under new OC Shannon Dawson.

Maye was the 2022 ACC Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year. Travis had his own breakout season in 2022. Leonard had an exceptional season in 2022 with 20 TD passes and 13 TD runs. Klubnik threw two TDs and three interceptions in 10 games in 2022.

Van Dyke can certainly rise up the rankings. Clemson and North Carolina have new offensive coordinators. The schedule is favorable for Van Dyke to get off to a good start in 2023. Miami host Miami (Ohio) on September 1. That’s followed by Texas A&M and Bethune-Cookman, at Temple and versus Georgia Tech.

Next. Cristobal and Van Dyke confident new offense fits Miami. dark

Miami has a bye week between Temple and Georgia Tech. If Miami can beat Texas A&M they have an excellent chance to start 5-0. Van Dyke would almost definitely have a good start to the season if Miami begins 5-0, Van Dyke would likely rise up the rankings. Expect a much better season for Van Dyke in 2023.
