The Miami Hurricanes football team held its second practice of training camp on Wednesday. Defensive linemen Jahfari Harvey and Akheem Mesidor, safety James Williams and wide receivers Xavier Restrepo and Colbie Young all spoke following practice on Wednesday. Preseason All-ACC named and Position U updates.

Harvey told reporters he will be playing the JACK position under new defensive coordinator Lance Guidry. Harvey said he will drop back into coverage more often this season. Sophomore Nyjalik Kelly was praised by Harvey as a player with a lot of upside entering the 2023 Miami football season.

Williams who faces a pivotal 2023 season ahead of being draft eligible spoke to Guidry about his role in 2023. Speaking with reporters, Williams said he expects to be lined up more frequently at outside linebacker in 2023. At 6’5 and 215 pounds Williams has often been projected as a hybrid linebacker/safety.

Restrepo told reporters he will occasionally play outside receiver in addition to his traditional role in the slot. After missing seven games in 2022 Restrepo is healthy and could lead Miami in receiving in 2023. Expect Restrepo to emerge as a leader among the Miami WRs this season.

Young spoke about losing weight, going up against Williams in practice with their matching height at 6’5 and freshman WR Nathaniel Joseph. Expect Young to be a bigger part of the offense than last season when he flashed potential in the middle of the season. Tyler Van Dyke being healthy should help the Miami WRs.

ESPN ranked the Miami Hurricanes football program fourth best since 1998 producing running backs, “The Hurricanes are tops by a country mile” at tight end, ninth at linebacker and fifth producing defensive backs. Tight end has been the one position Miami has consitently produce over the past 25 years.
