Steve Wiltfong the Director Of Recruiting for 247 Sports and Inside the U staff writer Gaby Urrutia both logged crystal balls on Tuesday for three-star 2025 quarterback Luke Nickel to the Miami football program. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projects Miami with a 94.3 percent chance for a Nickel commitment.

Nickel is the 341st-ranked prospect, 26th QB and 38th player in Georgia out of Alpharetta Milton in the 2025 class. At 6’2 and 205 pounds, Nickel already has excellent size. Wiltfong reported that the Miami football program made an impression on Nickel during his unofficial visit to Coral Gables during its end of July cookout.

Nickel threw for 2,507 yards while completing 58.5 percent of his passes with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions as a junior in 2022. Per 247 Sports Milton finished 10-4 in 2022 and advanced to the Semifinals of the Georgia AAAAAAA semifinals. Nickel’s brother Jack plays tight end for Michigan State.

There is an extensive list of other programs that have offered Nickel scholarships. That list includes ACC rivals Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, North Carolina and Virginia Tech. Per On3, Nickel has taken visits to seven other programs that include Florida, FSU, Georgia and Pittsburgh.

Miami does not have any players committed for 2025. Three-star QBs Emory Williams in 2023 and Judd Anderson in 2024 have signed and committed to the Hurricanes in the last two classes. Miami also projects to have sophomore Jacurri Brown on the 2024 roster. Tyler Van Dyke also has 2024 eligibility remaining.

Anderson has been a leader in helping recruit other prospects in the 2024 class. Hopefully, Nickel could be the same type of leader in the 2025 Miami class. Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson is the lead recruiter on Nickel. Dawson is working quickly at Miami after also being the lead recruiter on Anderson.

Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest are the only ACC programs with players committed to their 2025 classes. Miami had a slow starting 2024 class that has picked up this summer. Each of the first two full Mario Cristobal Miami recruiting classes has had a slow start.
