Where Tyler Van Dyke ranks among all Power 5 quarterbacks

Tyler Van Dyke is ranked 38th among all Power Five quarterbacks by 247 Sports posted on Tuesday. Van Dyke is the sixth-ranked QB in the ACC. Drake Maye of North Carolina is ranked first, Jordan Travis of FSU is 13th, Riley Leonard of Duke is 19th, Cade Klubnik is Clemson is 27th and Syracuse’s Garrett Schrader is 28th.

Those are the ACC QBs ranked ahead of Tyler Van Dyke. Miami does not play Duke or Syracuse this season. Conner Weigman of Texas A&M who is 32nd is the other Power Five QB ranked ahead of Van Dyke who Miami plays against this season. There are four QBs below Van Dyke on the Miami schedule in the Power Five QB rankings.

Jack Plummer of Louisville is 40th, Brennan Armstrong of North Carolina State is 56th, Zach Pyron of Georgia Tech is 64th and Tony Muskett of Virginia 65th. Van Dyke is expected to bounce back from a difficult 2022 season. New offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson is expected to be a better fit for Van Dyke.

Van Dyke was 70th in the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2022 with a 133.29 passer rating. Van Dyke was 11th in 2021 with a 160.10 passer rating. The modified Air Raid that Dawson runs should benefit Van Dyke. Miami is expected to take more shots downfield and be more explosive offensively in 2023.

Van Dyke has a proven history of success. In two seasons, Van Dyke has completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 4,766 yards, 35 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Van Dyke finished the 2021 season with six consecutive games of at least 300 yards and three TD passes. Van Dyke nearly broke Miami freshmen passing records in  2021.

Van Dyke finished his freshman season completing 62.3 percent of his passes for 2,931 yards, 25 TDs and six interceptions. Brad Kaaya set Miami freshmen records in 2014 with 3,198 passing yards and 26 TDs. If Miami did not have its bowl game cancelled due to a Covid outbreak, Van Dyke was on pace to break those records.

Van Dyke has a great chance to move into the top five in Miami history in passing yards and touchdown passes. Dawson has had proven success throughout his career coaching QBs. Expect Van Dyke to move up Power Five QB rankings as the season progresses running the Dawson offense.
