The Miami Football program received its first commitment in the 2025 class from three-star quarterback Luke Nickel. Nickel announced his commitment via social media. The 247 Sports composite has Nickel as the 342nd-ranked prospect, 26th QB and 38th recruit in Georgia out of Alpharetta Milton.

Nickel chose the Miami football program over nearly a dozen schools that included ACC rivals, Boston College, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech according to 247 Sports Director Of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong. Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson was the lead recruiter for Nickel.

Nickel is the second QB Dawson has secured for Miami since being hired this offseason. Miami also has a commitment from three-star 2023 QB Judd Anderson who is from Gray, Jones County, Georgia. Miami is expected to lose starting QB Tyler Van Dyke after the 2023 season. Miami has Jacurri Brown and Emory Williams on the roster.

Nickel completed 58.5 percent of his passes for 2,507 yards, with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions as a junior in 2022. Per 247 Sports, Milton finished 10-4 in 2022 and advanced to the Semifinals of the Georgia AAAAAAA semifinals. Nickel’s brother Jack is a tight end at Michigan State.

With solely the commitment from Nickel, Miami has the 27th-ranked 2025 recruiting class. Nickel told 247 Sports that the cohesiveness from the Miami coaching staff was important “It really did feel like the whole team and whole coaching staff really bonded together and I think that was the biggest thing. They all seemed together.”

Anderson has taken a leadership role in the 2024 Miami recruiting class. Hopefully, Nickel can do the same with the 2025 class. With early national signing day 15 months away in the 2025 class, Nickel has a lot of time to build relationships with other recruits in his class. Nickel has the potential to move up to a four-star prospect.

Adam Lichtenstein of the Sun Sentinel tweeted that “the 342nd player in the 2024 class is rated a 4-star, so he (Nickel) could be rated higher by the time he signs.” Seven of the 19 2024 Miami commits are blue-chip prospects. The 2023 Miami class had 15 blue-chip signees out of 26 players.
