Miami Hurricanes News: Saturday scrimmage, Hoops wins in France

The Miami Hurricanes football team is preparing for their scrimmage at Hard Rock Stadium during Canes Fest. The Miami basketball team improved to 3-0 during its trip to France. Miami national championship-winning coach Dennis Erickson discussed the impact that conference realignment could have on Miami.

Inside the U gave extensive coverage to the first scrimmage ahead of the 2023 season. Christopher Stock wrote about Miami holding its first practice in pads this week ahead of the scrimmage. David Lake wrote, Five areas to watch during Saturday’s open scrimmage at Canes Fest.”

On the Through the Smoke Podcast: Previewing Saturday’s scrimmage, realignment hypothetical, and defensive line recruiting.” Lake and Gaby Urrutia discussed missing out on five-star defensive lineman Colin Simmons, potential ACC realignment and previewed the scrimmage on Saturday.

The Miami basketball team beat AC Golfe Juan-Vallauris, 87-69 in its third and final game in France on Thursday. Wooga Poplar scored 25 points and had nine rebounds, three steals and one block. Matthew Cleveland scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds. Norchad Omier had  18 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and four steals.

Erickson told Tom D’Angelo of the Palm Beach Post that the SEC is the best fit for the Miami Hurricanes if they choose to leave the ACC. Erickson believes that the ACC will hang in there and that the conference has a lot of good teams. Also discussed were Erickson’s thoughts on the presidents roles in realignment.

Frank Tucker of Canes County wrote that Freshman WR Nathaniel Joseph is helping to shift (the) culture of Miami football.”  Tucker stated in the article that “Joseph brought an attitude, pride, and a work ethic to the class, making him a potential early leader for a program undergoing a culture overhaul.”

Alex Donno of All Hurricanes wrote that Miami Hurricanes Freshman Linebackers Aguirre & Bryant Earning Praise.” Donno discussed Bryant and several other Miami freshmen who have made an impact during training camp. Donno also spoke to Brian Smith and Larry Blustein about it on his Locked on Canes’ podcast.
