The Miami Hurricanes football team will conduct its first scrimmage ahead of the 2023 season at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday during Canes Fest. Miami received its first 2025 commitment on Friday from three-star Alpharetta, Georgia, Milton quarterback Luke Nickel on Friday night.

There is a lot of anticipation about the scrimmage on Saturday. Miami signed the seventh-ranked 2023 class. Five of those freshmen are players to watch in the scrimmage on Saturday. There are 41 newcomers to the 2023 Miami roster including transfers. Several of those players did not participate in spring practice.

Christopher Stock of Inside the U listed the updated 2023 Miami football roster. Stock posted the roster by position in numerical order. The rosters list the freshmen and transfers as well as several returnees that will be wearing new numbers during the 2023 season. Miami plays its first game versus Miami (Ohio) on September 1.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald wrote about comments from Hurricanes’ defensive coordinator Lance Guidry discussing the development of individual players on defense. Guidry primarily discussed the defensive backs and linebackers with Miami play-by-play announcer Joe Zagacki as transcribed by Jackson.

Nickel is a three-star prospect who is 342nd overall, the 26th QB and the 38th recruit in Georgia out of Alpharetta Milton in the 247 Sports composite rankings. Nickel will hopefully take on a leadership role in the 2025 class as the first commitment and QB in the 2025 class. Nickel can help Miami recruit other players.

Chip Patterson of CBS Sports stated his expectations on if the Miami football team would go over or under the 7.5-win total projected for them during the 2023 season. Miami has a favorable schedule in the first five weeks before games versus top 25 teams North Carolina, Clemson and Florida State in the final seven weeks.

Four-star 2024 defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin broke down his recruitment with Hayes Fawcett of On3 ahead of his August 19 commitment date. The Miami Hurricanes are one of five finalists for Franklin. Auburn is trending for a Franklin commitment with Tennessee as the primary challenger.
